Primary 5

Dear Parents/Carers,

Welcome back to the last term of P5! I hope you have all had a great Easter break.

For the first two weeks of the term we will be designing and preparing reports on a healthy lunchbox meal for the Taste of Grampian competition. After that, we will be shipwrecked on ‘The Island’ for our topic. We will be learning all about communities, land use and politics.

We will be writing regular diary entries linked to topic work and to help develop spelling, reading and writing skills. During weekly big writing lessons, the children will be revising all genres of text including poems and newspaper articles. We are still using VCOP to improve our writing (Vocabulary, Connectives, Openers and Punctuation).

Our numeracy themes for term four are time and measurement. The children are encouraged to practise these topics at home along with their times tables and ‘Learn It’s’ sheets.

Homework will continue to be given out on a Monday and due back in on Thursday. Homework tasks include practicing weekly spellings; daily DoodleMaths sessions; and another short revision task linking to language, maths or topic. Reading books will be given out on either a Monday or Tuesday. Library visits will be on a Friday afternoon.

This term your child will have PE on Tuesdays with Mrs Dalgarno and Thursdays with Ms Cruickshank. Thursday’s PE slot is first thing in the morning and so the children have been asked to arrive at school promptly or sensibly begin changing in the classroom before the first bell. Please ensure that your child has no jewellery on, especially earrings, and that long hair is tied back.

Thank you for your continued support and please do not hesitate to contact me if you have any queries or comments.

Kind regards,

Ms M Stuart
