Monquhitter Eco Group

Who are the ECO Group?

We are a group of pupils from across the school who meet fortnightly with staff and parents to discuss ways to make our school more environmentally friendly.

How are we chosen?

At the start of the new school year, children who would like to be on the Eco group have to complete an application to explain why they should be chosen and what they can bring to the team.

What do we do?

Every week the team carry out the following tasks:

  • Litter picking
  • Checking lights and interactive whiteboards are switched off
  • Making sure taps are turned off

Our aim is to make our school an even better place for everyone.  We help the environment by recycling paper and plastic.  We also save the school money by reducing the amount of energy and water we use.  We encourage everyone to care for the environment at home as well as in school. We care for and work on developing our school grounds to make them a safe, fun and educational area for everyone.

What is this year’s main project?

We have been working hard to fund raise and seek donations to purchase a poly tunnel so we can grow more crops to sell but also throughout the year. We also want this to be a whole school resource for all classes to access and use when they need.

We have also been busy collecting recipes from families and the community to create our own cook book which we hope to carry on developing next session.
